Green Atlantic PVC

Evaluated by a third party.

Green Atlantic PVC is evaluated by Intertek against the International Building Code and the International Residential Code, and manufactured under an Intertek-audited quality program.

Intertek Code Compliance Research ReportCCRR-0420

Evaluated against the 2021 IBC and 2021 IRC. Section 06 65 00, Plastic Trim.

Evaluated for

  • Durability
  • Surface burning
  • Termite resistance
  • Corrosion resistance
  • Weather resistance
  • Negative wind load on soffits

Performance

Flame spread index below 200 when tested to ASTM E84.

Deemed equivalent to preservative-treated or naturally durable wood for resistance to weathering and termite attack.

Not affected by corrosion from contact with ACQ-D treated wood.

Soffit assemblies of 1/2” x 11 1/4” boards on framing at 16” on center carry an allowable design load of 25 psf negative wind pressure.

Approved uses

Corner boards, soffits, fascia, battens, door pilasters, frieze boards, nonload-bearing rake boards, architectural millwork, and door and window trim on buildings of combustible, nonfire-resistance rated construction.

Fastening

The report evaluates stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized nails with blunt points and full round heads, long enough to penetrate the wood substrate at least 1 1/2”, over solid backing, with fascia over an approved structural sub-fascia. Green Atlantic requires 3/4” to 1 1/4” boards and sheets to be screwed and plugged with the Starborn Pro Plug System; screw fastening is outside the report’s evaluation, so confirm acceptance with your building official.

Installation must follow the research report, our published installation instructions and the applicable code. Where they conflict, the report governs. Final approval rests with the building official in your jurisdiction.

Working with the material.

PVC is not wood and it is not fiber cement. A few habits make the difference between a job that stays tight and one that telegraphs every joint by the second summer.

Cutting and milling

Standard carbide woodworking tools. Run a slower feed rate than in wood to keep the cut clean. Our boards can be milled, routed and shaped on site.

Expansion and contraction

PVC moves with temperature, far more along its length than across its width. Gap butt joints to suit the temperature on the day you install, fasten from the center of the board outward, and provide an expansion joint on runs longer than 24 feet.

Fastening

Screw and plug 3/4” to 1 1/4” trim boards and sheets with the Starborn Pro Plug System; nails only tack them in place. Nail thinner material and mouldings with stainless or hot-dipped galvanized trim nails. Fasten every 16”, two across the width on boards 4” and wider.

Painting

Paint is optional; our white needs no finish. If you paint white PVC, use a 100% acrylic latex exterior paint with a light reflective value (LRV) of 55 or higher. Black PVC needs no paint; to repaint it, use a heat-reflective paint made for vinyl and PVC in a matching black.

Adhesive and joints

Use a PVC cement at every scarf and miter joint. Finish screw holes with matching Starborn plugs, and fill nail holes with a product made for PVC rather than wood filler.

Handling and storage

Keep bundles flat and supported, out of prolonged direct sun, and pull the protective film before or right after the board goes up.

Backed by a written warranty.

Green Atlantic trim boards, sheets and mouldings are warranted against manufacturing defects that cause rotting, splitting, delamination, fungal decay or termite damage, when installed and cared for as our guide describes.
